10 years have passed since we first heard the infamously hypnotiq words: "...Want summa yo Brown Sugar" The voice reminded us of time tested artists like Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendagrass, Smokey Robinson, and so many others...but this time, the voice was a little fresher, modern...and so came the dawn of "NEO-soul." But in retropect, today, many are asking: What was so NEW about this sound? And what have been the consequences of branding artists like Bilal, Dwele, Jill Scott, and Amel Larrieux as "neo-soul" artists?
